The Paint Fumes team is a true ensemble. Everyone has a primary role, but they all pitch in to support each other and make the magic happen together.
Elizabeth Guffey, Artistic Director / Producer
Elizabeth has been involved with theater since she was a little girl making up plays with friends during recess. She has been a member of Freeport Community Players for over 10 years. She has appeared onstage in several roles, most recently as Domina in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Behind the scenes, she has served on the Board of Directors (including a term as President), produced several shows (including The Sisters Rosensweig, Forum, and Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty?), and was the driving force behind the Players' popular Radio series. Non-Players credits include producing Crazy For You at Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theatre.
Laura Graham, Director
Laura discovered theater at the age of twelve in her native Washington State and later earned a B.F.A. in Acting from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. She has since directed, acted, and taught in theatres and schools on both coasts of the US. She recently earned the title of "Outstanding Director of a Play" from BroadwayWorld.com's "Best of Baltimore College Theater 2007" for her production of Six Degrees of Separation at Johns Hopkins University. She has also recently directed The Rehearsal at Versailles and The Reluctant Doctor with the Flock Theatre in Connecticut. For the Hampstead Players, a New Hampshire based touring company, she directed Shakespeare for Kids I & II, A Christmas Carol, The Secret Garden, and Treasure Island. In addition, Laura has directed numerous community, high school, and college productions and has taught such varied subjects as beginning acting, Shakespeare, improvisation, and stage dialects to students of all ages and experience levels.
Adam Klein, Director / Technical Designer
Adam has been the Technical Director for The Public Theatre; L/A Community Little Theatre; Acorn Productions Phyzgig, Casandra Project, Naked Shakespeare; Port Opera; and other local production companies. A true jack-of-all trades, Adam designs lights, sound, and sets along with directing. Lighting accomplishments include outdoor lighting for The Stage at Spring Point for four summer shows and CLT's 2008 productions of Sylvia and Once On This Island. His favorite set design was The Nerd for TPT in 2006. Adam's Maine directing accomplishments include The Sisters Rosensweig for Freeport Community Players, and Chekov's The Bear in the Portland Stage Studio Theatre. Truly passionate about the performing arts, Adam embraces a holistic approach which focuses on artistic transformation and growth through the collaborative process. Assemble the ensemble!
Julia Sheridan Langham, Director
Julia is an actor with some small directorial projects under her belt. She hails from a long history of theatre starting as a young child and digging in deep at Emerson College in the early '80s. After several years of Boston theatre, Julia attended Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, RI, where she received her MA. Julia moved to New York City in 1993 and performed professionally and semi-professionally for 10 years. Most notably, Julia was a member of the internationally known theatre company, Mettawee River Company, artistic directed by Ralph Lee, who is most known for the start of the West Village Halloween Parade and creating the 'land shark' on Saturday Night Live. Some of Julia's favorite New York roles are Ophelia in Hamlet, Anna in Old Times by Harold Pinter, Masha in Chekhov's The Seagull, and The Bride in Blood Wedding by F. Garcia Lorca. After a change in careers, Julia moved her family to Maine in 2002. Julia immediately hooked up with Freeport Community Players. Her favorite roles with the Players have been Sylvia in Sylvia, Pfeni in The Sisters Rosensweig (directed by Adam Klein), and Carol Burnett in The Carol Burnett Show. She serves on the board of the Players and is on the Play Selection Committee. Julia lives in Freeport with her wonderful husband, Eric, and their two sons, Owen and Eero. Julia is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.
Cindy Baker, Stage Manager
Cindy first came to our attention when she joined the cast of Forum as courtesan Gymnasia. Her volunteer spirit and theater knowledge was invaluable behind the scenes. She pitched in on everything from set painting to choreography to costume construction. Cindy was last seen as Maud Dunlop in Portland Players production of The Music Man where she was also the Adult costumer. A Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, she has been involved as an actress, costumer, lighting designer, and set design/construction in over 40 productions in Hawaii, Virginia, and Maryland theaters.
